The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
